PM to inaugurate July Museum on August 5

The July Museum will be officially inaugurated on August 5 by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain shared the information on Friday.

He said, “The July Memorial Museum will be inaugurated on August 5. The government has already announced this, and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will officially inaugurate it.”

Referring to the government’s decision to officially observe August 5 as the “Day of the Fall of the Autocracy,” he said, “The day will be observed as an official state occasion by the government. We have made comprehensive preparations for the occasion. A special program will be held that day at the China Friendship Conference Center with the families of the martyrs and the injured. The Prime Minister will attend as the chief guest.”

Ganabhaban, once the center of power of the previous autocratic ruler, became the focal point of a massive outpouring of public anger on August 5, 2024. Following the mass uprising, the previous interim government took the initiative to convert Ganabhaban into the July Memorial Museum to preserve the memories of the uprising, rare documents of the revolution, various memorabilia of the martyrs and the injured, bloodstained clothing, banners and placards used during the movement, and other related materials.

Although the museum was scheduled to be inaugurated several times earlier, it could not be opened at the time. However, all uncertainty has now come to an end.
