The 11-party alliance will hold protest rallies in all border districts and points of the country this Friday to protest push-ins and border killings. Additionally, to protest killings, rapes, and the deterioration in law and order across the country, the coalition parties will demonstrate at Hadi Chattar in Shahbagh, the capital, on June 15.
These programs were announced at a press conference of the 11-party alliance held on Wednesday afternoon at the Jamaat-e-Islami central office in Maghbazar, Dhaka, by Hamidur Rahman Azad, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami. He is also the coordinator of the alliance's liaison committee.
Jamaat leader Azad said, "The government is running the country in the style of past fascist regimes. It has been proven through their actions that this government does not want reform." At the same time, he stated, "The neighboring country is going overboard. Instead of taking legal action against foreign nationals residing here, they are attempting to forcibly push them out."
The coordinator of the 11-party alliance's liaison committee said, "Border killings pose a serious threat to our independence and sovereignty. In the last three months, India has made over 50 push-in attempts at the border. In the past 100 days, Indian forces have killed 19 innocent Bangladeshis with gunfire. The Bangladesh government has failed to take appropriate steps in this regard."
The Jamaat leader accused that the Home Minister's recent statements on border killings contradict national policy. "There is no law that allows direct shooting. This is a clear violation of human rights."
Jamaat leader Azad further stated, "The opposition will always remain vigilant regarding the country's independence and sovereignty. The public must remain alert so that the government does not show any kind of indifference." He also called upon the government to move away from a submissive foreign policy.
At the press conference, NCP's chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari said, "I have traveled in border areas and witnessed the suffering of the people. I have seen that the government's role at the border is insufficient. The government must strengthen the BGB."
