Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Ordinance approved by Cabinet

The Cabinet has given principled and final approval to the draft of the 'Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026'.
On Monday (September 28), the draft titled 'Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026' was placed at the Cabinet meeting, bringing three amendments to Section 64 of the 'Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012'.
The amendments are — One: Instead of the provision to submit returns within not more than 15 days after the end of every three tax periods, the provision to submit returns within not more than 15 days after the end of each tax period is being reintroduced; Two: If the 15th day is a government holiday, the return must be submitted on the next working day; Three: Any government, semi-government, or autonomous organization, bank, insurance, and person or institution filing a zero return will be able to submit the return within not more than 20 days after the end of the tax period.
The Internal Resources Division took the initiative for this amendment with the aim of increasing dynamism in revenue collection at the field level.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet has congratulated Prime Minister on the occasion of Bangladesh's dignified participation in the United Nations General Assembly under his leadership.
A notice sent from the Secretariat on Monday said that Bangladesh's participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is a historic event, which is especially dignified for Bangladesh.
It was informed that on September 24, the Prime Minister addressed the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Previously, his father, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, had addressed the 11th special session of the United Nations General Assembly on August 26, 1980. Tarique Rahman's mother, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, had addressed the 48th session of the United Nations General Assembly on October 1, 1993. Three members of the same family representing their country at the United Nations General Assembly is a unique event in world history.
The notice said that during the four-day visit, the Prime Minister participated in 32 international programs and meetings. In addition to addressing the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, he spoke at 7 high-level meetings, held bilateral meetings with 11 countries, and met with top officials of 10 international organizations, including the United Nations. Bangladesh's participation in the United Nations General Assembly under the Prime Minister's leadership has highlighted the government's commitments and aspirations on the world stage and has played an important role in expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation. In light of this, the Cabinet has expressed sincere congratulations to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the Bangladesh delegation.
