The body of Mujib Ali, who was killed in firing by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Dattagram border in Kulaura of Moulvibazar, has been handed over to Bangladesh Police.

The body was handed over at Chatalapur Checkpost at around 7:30 pm on Saturday in the presence of Indian police and BSF personnel. Members of border forces and police from both countries as well as the victim’s family members were also present.

Mujib Ali was killed on Friday afternoon inside Indian territory near the Dattagram border after allegedly being shot by the BSF. He was the son of late Ajibur Ali of the area. According to his family, Mujib had left home in the afternoon to catch fish. Later in the evening, they learned that he had been killed in BSF firing.

However, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) provided a different account of the incident. Lieutenant Colonel Sarkar Asif Mahmud, commander of the Sreemangal Battalion (46 BGB), said that on Friday evening a group of six to seven Bangladeshi smugglers entered about 500 yards inside Indian territory in the Lokhairchar area with the assistance of Indian smugglers for smuggling purposes. At that time, members of the Lathiapura BSF camp fired two to three rounds at them. Mujib Ali was shot and died at the scene.

He further said that the others returned to Bangladesh and went into hiding after the incident. According to preliminary information, Mujib Ali had previously been involved in smuggling activities.

Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahurul Islam Munna said that the BSF had handed over Mujib’s body. Members of law enforcement agencies from both countries and the victim’s family were present during the handover.
