Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed apologized to flood-affected people while distributing relief materials in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar. He said, “I was outside the country, which is why I could not come on time. I was busy with Parliament during the session of the National Parliament. I got the opportunity on Friday and Saturday, so I came to see you. Please forgive me.”
He made the remarks on Saturday afternoon after distributing relief materials and visiting flood-affected areas at the grounds of Marangghona Government Primary School in Konakhali Union under the Matamuhuri area.
Earlier, he distributed relief materials at 17 locations across different unions in Chakaria and Pekua. At the end of his speech, he again asked the flood victims whether they had forgiven him. In response, the flood victims raised their hands, indicating that they had forgiven him.
Local residents view the apology by the lawmaker from the Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua) constituency positively.
Hamidul Haque, a resident of Surajpur-Manikpur Union, said, “Mr. Salahuddin is the current lawmaker from this constituency. He came to the area after the flood and distributed relief materials. He apologized for arriving late. Asking for forgiveness is a noble quality. He did that and drew everyone’s attention. He knows how to win people’s hearts. You could say he is a magician.”
Abdur Rahman of Chikolghat in Lakshyarchar Union said, “The Home Adviser was not in the area during the flood, and many flood victims criticized him for that. Some videos to that effect also spread on Facebook. However, he kept track of the situation and instructed party leaders and activists to stand beside the flood victims.”
Rahima Khatun of Marangghona village in Konakhali commented, “Salahuddin is one of our own. He came to distribute relief among the flood victims. He could not come during the flood, so he also apologized. Not only I, everyone is happy that he apologized. It is hard to imagine that a minister would apologize to the people.”
