Prime Minister to Visit Chandpur, Feni Ahead of Monsoon

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit Chandpur on May 16 and Feni on May 25. Water Resources Minister Md. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee announced this to journalists this morning after a meeting with the prime minister at the Secretariat.
A meeting on water resource management was held at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat on the day. The minister said the technical study and feasibility survey of the Padma Barrage project are nearly complete. The government will take a decision on the matter soon.
In response to a question, the water resources minister said the canal excavation program is ongoing. The prime minister will inaugurate canal excavation activities in Chandpur and Feni before the monsoon season begins.
He explained, “The prime minister is visiting Chandpur on May 16. Several programs are scheduled there, and she will inaugurate the canal excavation program. She has been prioritizing canal excavation initiatives in the districts she has already visited across the country.”
“We have undertaken a five-year program to excavate 20,000 kilometers of canals across Bangladesh. Accordingly, the prime minister has already inaugurated excavation programs in several districts. Our ministers and MPs are continuing the program in their respective areas. As the monsoon season is approaching, we may be able to continue this program until May. After the monsoon, we will resume the canal excavation program around November, December, and January,” added Md. Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee.
