Madrasa teacher beaten over alleged sexual abuse of student, later sent to jail

Local residents detained Mosleuddin, vice principal of a madrasa in Tongi, Gazipur, and handed him over to police over allegations of sexually abusing a seven-year-old female student. He was beaten during the incident. Police later took him into custody. Police said the accused teacher had subsequently been sent to jail.

The incident took place around noon on Wednesday at the campus of Koriol Quran International Madrasa on Shafiuddin Sarker Academy Road in the Auchpara area of Tongi.

Several people present at the scene said, citing the child’s family, that the first-grade student had been reluctant to attend the madrasa for the past three days. When asked why, she initially remained silent out of fear. Later, when questioned by her parents, the child accused madrasa teacher Mosleuddin of sexual abuse.

According to the victim’s family, after learning about the incident from their daughter, her father went to the madrasa around noon on Wednesday and demanded an explanation from the accused teacher. When news of the matter spread, local residents gathered at the scene. At one point, they beat the teacher. Upon receiving the information, police from Tongi West Police Station arrived at the scene and rescued him before taking him into custody.

Meanwhile, a video showing the teacher being beaten circulated on social media on Thursday. The incident subsequently sparked discussion.

Madrasa Principal Almas Hossain said the incident was premeditated. He said they had filed a complaint with the police station. He also said a press conference would be held on the madrasa premises at 5:00 pm on Friday in the presence of teachers from various madrasas across the country to provide details.

Tongi West Police Station Officer in Charge Arifur Rahman told Agamir Somoy on Friday that the teacher had been sent to jail over the sexual abuse allegations. In addition, the madrasa authorities had filed another case naming the child’s guardians as defendants. Police are trying to arrest the accused in that case.
