Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has said Sheikh Hasina has said that she will return to the country in December. I also want to believe that she will return home, face the law and go through the judicial process. The reach of the law is long, and the law will proceed at its own pace.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting titled ‘Agamir Shailkupa’ and a memorial meeting for late renowned artist Mustafa Monwar at the Shailkupa Upazila Parishad Auditorium in Jhenaidah at 11 am on Friday.
Regarding Sheikh Hasina, the law minister said she faces allegations of murder, enforced disappearance and genocide. If Sheikh Hasina wants to face the truth of these allegations, she should return to the country and participate in the legal process.
Regarding the judiciary, Md. Asaduzzaman said his dream is to build a judiciary in which even a poor and helpless person can place the highest level of trust after the Creator. However, there are still many challenges to achieving that goal.
He said there are various criticisms of the judiciary. Some people talk about corruption, while others talk about structural weaknesses. The biggest crisis facing the judiciary is the lack of judges with human values. The responsibility of judges is not merely to work as a profession, but to establish justice.
Regarding Sheikh Hasina’s recent statement, the law minister said although many people referred to it as a video conference, it was actually a recorded audio message. Although there has been much discussion about it, in his view, Sheikh Hasina is a fugitive and convicted accused. At the same time, she faces several cases involving murder and violence.
He further said those discussing Sheikh Hasina’s return to the country should think once about whether, despite all these allegations, she has expressed any remorse or apologized to the people.
District Commissioner Md. Noman Hossain, Police Superintendent Mia Mohammad Ashish Bin Hossain, Shailkupa Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Shailkupa Upazila BNP General Secretary Humayun Babar Firoz, along with representatives of the district administration, police administration, leaders and activists of various political parties, and people from different professions and sections of society were present at the event.
