All cottages and resorts in Sajek Valley, a popular tourist destination in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati, are fully booked ahead of the five-day break combining the government holidays for Durga Puja and the weekend.
Advance bookings by tourists have filled all accommodation facilities for the holiday period from October 20 to 24. As a result, visitors traveling to Sajek without advance reservations may face difficulties finding rooms.
Known for its rows of hills, floating clouds and natural beauty, Sajek Valley attracts large numbers of tourists during holidays. Visitors from different parts of the country come to spend their vacations with family and friends. Advance booking demand has increased this year ahead of the Durga Puja holidays.
Mohammad Helal, owner of Swargapari Cottage in Sajek, said tourists were booking rooms in advance for the Durga Puja holidays. All rooms at his cottage had been booked for the scheduled holidays. He added that although many people were contacting them now, they could no longer offer rooms according to their preferences.
With all cottages and resorts in Sajek fully booked, finding accommodation upon arrival at the last minute may be difficult. In the past, some tourists were forced to spend the night at alternative locations because they could not find accommodation during periods of heavy tourist traffic. Visitors who travel without advance bookings risk facing a similar situation this time. Traveling without confirmed accommodation may be particularly risky for families with children.
Tourists are therefore being advised to confirm cottage or resort reservations before setting out for Sajek, check room rates and verify their bookings.
Rahul Chakma, organizing secretary of the Cottage and Resort Owners Association of Sajek, said all cottages and resorts in Sajek were currently fully booked. He added that they were ready to welcome tourists as they did every year.
