The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch Cyber and Special Crime South Division’s Financial Crime Investigation Team has arrested two people, including a young woman, from the Bashundhara Residential Area on allegations of producing, distributing and selling pornography.
The arrested individuals are Sumaiya Sayeed (25), and Khaja Saklain Faruk (30).
Deputy Commissioner of the DB Cyber and Special Crime South Division Tarikul Islam disclosed the information on Wednesday.
He said a group would produce pornographic videos and images and advertise them on Instagram, Telegram and various other online platforms. The content was then sold for money through specific Telegram groups and channels. Mobile financial service accounts such as bKash and Nagad were used to receive payments from customers.
Through an investigation, the DB identified the locations of the people involved. It then conducted a raid and arrested the woman. An iPhone and a OnePlus mobile phone were seized from her.
During questioning, the woman provided information about one of her associates. The man was later arrested the same day from the Badda Link Road area.
The DB said an initial verification of the allegations against them was found through questioning and analysis of information from the seized phones. Investigators also learned that several others may be involved in the activities. Efforts are underway to identify them.
A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Pornography Control Act, 2012.
