Power Grid Bangladesh PLC has formed a five-member committee to uncover the cause of the power outage and formulate recommendations to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
Transmission-2 Chief Engineer (Additional Duty) Syed Ebadullah Haider Ali has been made the head of the committee. The committee has been instructed to submit its report within the next five working days.
Earlier at 12:43 pm on Tuesday, power supply suddenly shut down in various areas of eastern Dhaka and parts of Chattogram. Around 2:30 pm, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chairman Rezaul Karim said power supply stopped because the Meghnaghat-Haripur national grid line went out of order.
People suffered and activities were disrupted in offices, courts, business establishments, and residences.
Among the areas where power supply was cut off are various eastern areas of Dhaka, including Bhulta, Haripur, Siddhirganj, Gulshan, Rampura, Ulon, and Motijheel. Power supply was also shut down in a portion of Chattogram.
Then, at 3 pm, BPDB said the work to restore power supply is underway and it would return to normal in the remaining areas within a short time.
