Road, Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam visits central locomotive factory at Parbotipur on Tuesday. Agamir Somoy.
'Although the previous government spent Tk 2 lakh 63 thousand crore on the railways over the past 18 years, I do not see any progress in development. It has only wasted resources. It spent money unnecessarily,' this is how Road, Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam expressed his observation at Parbotipur of Dinajpur on Tuesday.
He made these remarks in response to journalists' questions after inspecting the Central Locomotive Factory in Parbotipur Upazila of Dinajpur on Tuesday afternoon.
The Railway Minister said, "The previous government committed looting. As a result, the progress that should have been achieved did not happen. It is largely stagnant, in some places it has gone backwards, and in some places it has been destroyed."
The Minister said, "The quality of railway service has not changed with time. The government was in power for 18 years, but there was no one to monitor it. Efforts are being made to overcome that situation. However, it will take a little time to overcome it. The Prime Minister is active in establishing the expected service that people hope for from the railways."
At that time, junior minister for the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Habibur Rashid, Secretary of the Ministry of Railways Fahimul Islam, and other senior officials were present.
