Govt to Support Haor Farmers for Three Months

The government to identify farmers affected by heavy rainfall in the haor region and provide assistance for the next three months. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said this on Wednesday while responding to a supplementary question in the National Parliament.
Earlier, responding to a notice on an urgent matter of public importance, Member of Parliament from Sunamganj-5, Kalim Uddin Ahmed, said that all haors are going under water due to heavy rainfall. Farmers are struggling in the fields to harvest paddy.
Drawing attention to the matter, the Leader of the House said that it is a matter of serious concern. Based on the weather forecast, instructions were given three days earlier to the local administrations of these three districts to take precautionary measures.
This morning as well, I spoke with the Minister for Disaster Management. Due to heavy rainfall, three districts of Sylhet and some areas of Mymensingh are facing this problem. We will identify the affected farmers, those whose crops have been damaged, and make efforts to provide assistance from the government for the next three months, the Prime Minister added.
