Some families have lost loved ones to the cruelty of husbands while others have lost them to their own children’s violence. In one place an alleged top criminal was killed in a shooting by rivals. Elsewhere, an autorickshaw driver was killed by having his throat slit during an attempt to steal his vehicle. In this way, 11 people have lost their lives in attacks by assailants across eight districts of the country. However, the killers did not stop at murder. In some cases, bodies were dismembered while in another, a sleeping father was hacked to death.

Shirin Begum (42), had gone to Jordan to improve her family’s financial situation. She returned to Bangladesh two months ago after learning of her mother in law’s death. However, her life as an expatriate ultimately became a tragedy for Shirin. She was killed amid her husband’s suspicions and resentment over not receiving money.

During an argument with his wife around midnight, her husband struck her head against a wall and ended her life. Even after killing her, he did not stop. To conceal the crime, her husband Dulal Hawladar (50), used a boti, a traditional curved cutting knife, to cut Shirin’s body into four pieces.

Her head and both legs were severed from her body. However, before he could dispose of the body, police caught Dulal following the building owner’s prompt action. Police recovered the four pieces of the victim’s body hidden in the kitchen. The incident occurred early Monday morning in the Mir Hazirbag area of the capital.

Speaking to eyewitnesses, it was learned that Shirin’s head had been separated from her body and both legs had been severed from the base. She was not wearing any clothes.

SI Atiqul Islam of Jatrabari Police Station, the investigating officer, said, citing the arrested Dulal, that the building owner heard noises during the night and called the national emergency service at 999. Police then arrived and recovered the body.

Young man killed in Sylhet for protesting someone taking pictures of his wife

A man was taking pictures of his wife at the Kastaghar Sweeper Colony in Sylhet city. Cleaning worker Hriday Kumar Harijan (35), objected to the act. Enraged by the protest, the man returned with a group of people and stabbed Hriday. The incident occurred at around 8:00 pm last Sunday.

The victim’s relatives and eyewitnesses said a man named Amin was taking pictures of Hriday’s wife, Pinky Rani. When Hriday saw this and protested, an argument broke out between them. At one point, Amin called several other people on his mobile phone and brought them to the scene. They then stabbed Hriday, killing him on the spot.

In another incident in the Ujilab area of the same upazila, police recovered the body of a young man named Sabuj Mia (38). At around 6:00 am on Monday, local residents saw his body lying on a bamboo platform beside a pond and informed police.
