Police have filed two cases against the driver of Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat’s car for allegedly driving recklessly after entering the road from the wrong direction. The incident took place on Circuit House Road in the capital on Thursday morning, September 3.

According to traffic police sources, at around 9:08 am Thursday, a flag bearing Range Rover (Dhaka Metro Gha 18 2125) was traveling toward the Secretariat on Circuit House Road from the wrong direction. At the time, the Prime Minister’s motorcade was traveling toward the Secretariat through the adjacent road while obeying the traffic signal.

Traffic police officers on duty stopped the vehicle after seeing it traveling on the wrong side of the road. The driver, Arif Hossain, was then informed about the traffic law violation. Two separate cases were filed against him under two different sections for reckless driving and a fine of Tk 6,000 was collected.

A senior traffic police official said Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat was sitting in the vehicle at the time of the incident. He said, “The law is equal for everyone. Whether a minister or an ordinary citizen, action will be taken if traffic laws are violated.”

The official said senior officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police encouraged the action. He also said there had been allegations in the past of vehicles belonging to influential people traveling on the wrong side of the road. However, this time the vehicle was stopped at the scene and action was taken in accordance with the law.
