Two held over killing of couple and their two children in Rangpur

Police have detained two people in connection with the killing of retired Rangpur Zilla School teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and his wife and children in Rangpur city. Kotwali Police Station Officer in Charge Nazmul Kader confirmed the information at around 12pm on Sunday.
The bodies were sent to the morgue of Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Saturday night for autopsies.
Ganapati Chakraborty(65), lived with his family in a two-story building in the Machuapara area of Kamal Kachna in the city. The bodies of Ganapati, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty(50), their son Ayush Chakraborty(12), and daughter Agami Chakraborty(25), were found there on Saturday night.
Relatives of the victims said Pritilata Chakraborty’s sister Puja Chakraborty had been unable to reach her by phone since Thursday. She called again on Saturday night. After finding her sister’s phone switched off, she called her brother-in-law and their daughter one after another. When all their phones were found to be switched off, she went to the house and found the door locked from the outside and belongings scattered inside. Police were then called. The bodies of the four victims were subsequently found.
After recovering the bodies, police said they suspected it was a planned robbery. The miscreants allegedly broke open and ransacked places where money and valuables were kept inside the house before looting them.
Police also suspect that the robbery and killings took place two or three days earlier. The victims were allegedly strangled to death with ropes or gamchas wrapped around their necks. The electrical connection to the house was disconnected beforehand.
