Fake Facebook ID created in name of Prime Minister’s family member, fraudster arrested

Police have arrested a man named Karkan Rana for allegedly creating fake Facebook IDs using the names and photos of members of Prime Minister Tarek Rahman’s family as well as his Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon and Personal Assistant 2 Abdur Rahman Sani.
The E Fraud Investigation Team of the DMP’s City Cyber Crime Investigation Division arrested him during a raid on Sunday afternoon. Mobile phones and other evidence were seized from Karkan Rana at the time.
Police said the fraudster was using these Facebook IDs to spread propaganda and false and fabricated information and to damage the reputation of those concerned. He also created multiple IDs and pages in the names of many other people.
A case has been filed at Banani Police Station under the Cyber Security Act. Police have applied to the court seeking seven days of remand to question the accused.
