Veteran Journalist Shahed Kamal Passes Away

Veteran journalist and academic Shahed Kamal has passed away. He died on Saturday evening at ZH Sikder Hospital in the capital. He was about 86 years old.
Shahed Kamal was the son of renowned poet Sufia Kamal.
The news was confirmed to the media by his younger sister, Sultana Kamal.
Speaking from London, human rights activist Sultana Kamal said, “My elder brother passed away a short while ago. My younger sister will share the family’s decisions regarding the funeral.”
Shahed Kamal had been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Sikder Medical Hospital. His life support was withdrawn on Saturday evening. His body will be taken to his residence, Sanjher Maya, in Dhanmondi later tonight. His funeral prayer (Janazah) will be held after Zuhr prayers on Sunday at Taqwa Mosque.
Shahed Kamal began his journalism career in 1957. He worked for many years at the state-owned Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS). He also joined the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Dhaka as a faculty member in 1976.
