The Bangladesh Solar Expo 2026 will be held on November 3 and 4 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital to accelerate the expansion and use of solar power. The event is jointly organized by the Power Division, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, and Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL).

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will attend the opening ceremony on November 3 as the chief guest. After inaugurating the expo, he will visit various stalls and exhibitions.

The government has already issued the ‘Special Solar Power Ordinance 2026’ to accelerate the expansion of solar power, resolve administrative complexities and expedite investment. The ‘National Renewable Energy Development Strategy 2026-2030’ has also been adopted to increase renewable energy production and use, attract private investment and strengthen institutional coordination.

To expand rooftop solar power, a special package has been announced under the net metering system to purchase surplus electricity at Tk 10.50 per unit. In addition, the government is encouraging the ‘OPEX’ model, which allows government and private institutions to install solar panels on their rooftops through third parties without investing their own capital. This is expected to encourage the private sector and create new employment opportunities.

To reduce project implementation costs and increase investment, import duties on solar power and battery-related products have been reduced to 1 percent, while value-added tax (VAT) has been fully exempted.

The theme of this year’s expo is ‘Make Every Inch of Rooftop Count, Increase Income Through Solar Power.’ The event aims to showcase government initiatives and the latest innovations in solar technology, encourage investment and strengthen cooperation among stakeholders in the sector.

The expo will feature specialized exhibition stalls bringing together solutions and services for the solar power sector. Modern equipment, including solar panels, inverters, smart grid technologies and advanced battery storage systems, will be displayed.

Leading financial institutions, project developers and service providers will showcase their services related to project financing, loans on easy terms and technical assistance.

The two-day event will feature four specialized seminars on strategic development, the policy environment and investment prospects in the solar sector. Local and international experts, policymakers, financial institutions, technology suppliers, investors and representatives of industrial enterprises will participate as key speakers.

In addition, special orientation sessions will be organized for service providers.
