Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) has urged the public not to be misled by rumors about gas supply being suspended.
In a message sent to the media on Tuesday, Petrobangla said that a certain quarter has been deliberately spreading rumors on social media by creating photo cards in some media outlets claiming that gas supply will be suspended for the next four days. Through this, an attempt is being made to create panic among the public, which has come to the attention of Petrobangla authorities.
It said that emergency maintenance work is underway at one of the two liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals located in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar — the Summit LNG Terminal. Due to this, the regasification activities of the terminal — converting the gas back into gas form for supply — will remain suspended.
As a result, the current daily gas supply of 2,570 million cubic feet may drop to 2,250 million cubic feet over the next four days. In other words, daily gas supply may decrease by approximately 320 million cubic feet during this period.
Petrobangla said that gas supply will not be completely suspended anywhere in the country. However, due to the trimmed supply volume, temporarily low gas pressure may prevail in some areas.
In this situation, Petrobangla has requested the general public not to pay heed to misleading information and rumors spreading on social media.
