President Approves 2026-27 Budget Document

Before its presentation in Parliament, President Mohammad Shahabuddin approved the national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year and the revised budget for 2025-26. The Head of State signed the budget documents at 2:45 pm on Thursday at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban complex.
Earlier, the budget was approved at a special meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The proposed national budget for FY 2026-27 amounts to Tk 9.38 trillion, the largest in the country’s history.
Parliament sources said Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Planning State Minister Junaid Saki, Finance Division Secretary Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Majumder, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman and Internal Resources Division (IRD) Secretary Md. Abdur Rahman Khan, along with relevant officials from the President’s Office and other senior government officials, were present at the time.
This year’s budget marks the 55th national budget and the first under the BNP government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. It is also the first budget for Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury as a member of the BNP Standing Committee.
The budget theme is ‘Economic Democratization and Deregulation: Bangladesh’s Journey Toward a Trillion-Dollar Economy.’
This is the first national budget presented by a BNP government since FY 2006-07, when then finance minister M. Saifur Rahman placed the budget.
