10 Projects Approved by ECNEC

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 10 mega projects at a cost of Tk 3,890 crore. This is the 12th ECNEC meeting of the current fiscal year and the fourth meeting of the present government.
The important meeting was held on Tuesday (June 9) at 10:00 AM in the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat. It was chaired by the Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairman Tarique Rahman.
According to officials of the Ministry of Planning, a total of 12 projects (both new and revised) were presented at the meeting, of which 10 received final approval after scrutiny.
The approved projects are: Maintenance and rehabilitation of the Barisal Irrigation Project (Phase 1); Construction of Integrated Upazila Land Complex; Construction of the city building for Mymensingh City Corporation; Upgrading the Anwara-Banshkhali-Toitong-Pekua-Badarkhali-Chakaria regional highway to proper standards and width; Development of circuit houses in 33 districts and installation of a lift at the Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner's office.
Also approved: Bangladesh Children's Hospital and Institute Expansion Project-2; Construction of a Cancer Center at Dhaka CMH (Phase 2); Madrasa Education Management and Information System (MEMIS) Support Project; Installation of multimedia classrooms in 653 madrasas across the country; and Capacity enhancement of existing grid substations and transmission lines.
The Ministry of Planning stated that the lion's share of funding for these 10 approved projects will come from government funds. Maximum emphasis will be given to implementing the projects within the scheduled time.
