UK sea tragedy claims lives of Jubo Dal leader’s wife, daughter and nephew

Three members of a Sylhet expatriate family, including the wife and daughter of a Jubo Dal leader in the United Kingdom, died after being swept away by strong currents at West Mersea beach in Essex County, UK.
The incident occurred near Colchester City at West Mersea beach late Wednesday night, Bangladesh time.
The victims were identified as Selina Rahman, 42, wife of UK Jubo Dal Vice President Dr. Sheikh Monsur Rahman, their daughter Samiya Rahman, 15, and Monsur’s nephew, Musa Ahmed, 9, the son of his sister in law.
Dr. Sheikh Monsur Rahman’s ancestral home is in Mollargaon Union of South Surma upazila in Sylhet.
A relative of the family, Sheikh Mahfuzur Rahman Munna, provided the information on Thursday.
He said the family had gone to the beach on Wednesday for an outing. During the visit, young Musa was swept away by the strong current. Selina and her daughter Samiya drowned while trying to rescue him.
Following the incident, local police, HM Coastguard, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the Air Ambulance and other emergency services launched a coordinated rescue operation. Their bodies were later recovered.
UK BNP Convener Abul Kalam Azad and Member Secretary Khasruzzaman Khasru also confirmed the incident.
They said Selina was from Chhatak upazila in Sylhet. She was the daughter of Mujibur Rahman, former vice president of UK BNP.
