In Naogaon, 20 disadvantaged families were each given a goat in exchange for just 10 taka as part of an initiative by a group of young people. At the same time, 450 people received lunch for 1 taka.
The unique assistance program was organized Friday afternoon on the premises of Biam Laboratory School and College in the city by a humanitarian service club called Friends Panel Naogaon. The event was organized to mark the club’s 200th week. Naogaon Sadar constituency lawmaker Zahidul Islam Dhalu was the chief guest.
The organizers said Friends Panel Naogaon was formed in 2016 with 10 young people. The organization currently has 63 members. Its main objective is to support disadvantaged and marginalized people in society.
Since its establishment, the organization has been providing a full meal to around 200 people every Friday at different locations in the city in exchange for 1 taka. As part of the initiative, goats were distributed among 20 families and meals were provided to 450 people during the organization’s 200th week.
The organizers hope the beneficiary families will gradually become self reliant by raising and caring for the goats.
Chief guest Zahidul Islam Dhalu praised the initiative, saying, “While many young people are wasting time on drugs and social media, such humanitarian initiatives are a unique example for society.” He also assured the organization of his support for its future good works.
Members of the club, political figures, media workers and prominent members of society were present at the event.
