Jhalakathi District Leader of Banned Chhatra League Sent to Jail

A court has ordered the jail custody of Abdullah Al Masud Modhu, president of the banned Chhatra League’s Jhalakathi district unit, after showing him arrested in five cases.
The order was issued on Thursday by Judge HM Kabir Hossain of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Jhalakathi.
Police said Masud Modhu was arrested on June 1 from the Dhanmondi area of the capital. He was later shown arrested in a case filed with Dhanmondi Police Station, as well as in five cases filed with Jhalakathi Police Station. He was sent to jail after being produced before the court.
Abdullah Al Masud Modhu is a resident of East Chandkathi area in Jhalakathi town and the son of Abdul Mannan. He assumed the post of president of the Jhalakathi district Chhatra League on October 30, 2021. Police said he had been in hiding since August 5, 2024, following the fall of the Awami League government.
Police sources said leaders and activists of the Awami League, whose political activities are currently banned, along with members of its affiliated organizations, gathered at Takwa Mosque on Road 12 in the Dhanmondi area of Dhaka to attend the funeral of former minister Tofail Ahmed. They later brought out a procession and chanted various slogans. Police then conducted an operation and detained Masud Modhu, taking him to Dhanmondi Police Station.
Sub-Inspector Mithun Singh of Dhanmondi Police Station filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act as the complainant in the incident. The case names Abdullah Al Masud Modhu and five others, while around 200 unidentified individuals were also accused. Modhu is listed as the number one accused in the case.
Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmud Hasan said that after his arrest in the Dhanmondi case, information on five additional cases filed in Jhalakathi was sent to the relevant police stations. He was subsequently sent to jail through a court order.
