Tofail Ahmed Passes Away

Former minister and veteran Awami League leader Tofail Ahmed has passed away (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un).
He breathed his last this Monday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in the capital. He was 82 years old.
Tofail Ahmed had been receiving treatment at the hospital for a long time due to various age-related health issues.
Tofail Ahmed took oath as the Minister of Industry and Commerce in the government led by Sheikh Hasina on June 23, 1996. Throughout his political career, he was elected as a member of the National Parliament nine times—a notable achievement in the country's parliamentary politics.
Tofail Ahmed's primary and most recent constituency was Bhola-1 (Constituency 115), which encompasses the entirety of the Bhola Sadar Upazila in the Bhola District.
He served as the Minister of the Ministry of Commerce until 2018. He played a significant role in shaping Bangladesh's industrial, trade, and economic policies.
