Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged foreign investors to launch new ventures and expand their businesses in Bangladesh.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the “FICCI FDI Conference-2026” organized by the Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) on Thursday at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.
Tarique said, “BNP government wants you to come to Bangladesh, take new initiatives, and expand business. Whether you are a local entrepreneur or a foreign investor - when you invest capital in Bangladesh, our government will also be by your side with its time, institutional cooperation, and timely policies. This is not just an assurance; it is our government’s specific commitment.”
Expressing gratitude to the local and foreign corporate heads, investors, and experts in attendance, Tarique added that many have already chosen Bangladesh as a destination for business expansion and new investment.
This has created new jobs, increased the use of modern technology, enriched global supply chains, and made significant contributions to the country’s economic progress.
Tarique mentioned that he began his career as a businessman before entering politics. His experience taught him that a business does not succeed solely on the entrepreneur’s skill or political assurances; growth-friendly government policies also play a vital role.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s potential, he said, “While the country faces some challenges, it also possesses a rapidly growing large internal market, a young and hardworking workforce, a strategic geographical location, and an elected government supported by the people. These strengths are driving Bangladesh forward on the path of sustainable prosperity.”
According to Tarique, the goal is to build a rule-based economy connected to the world and driven by private sector dynamism. To this end, he called on investors not just to invest in Bangladesh, but to become partners in the country’s economic transformation.
He said while the government has completed five months, the work on economic and policy preparations began long before the elections. During the time, the opinions of investors, entrepreneurs, business chambers, economists, development partners, and policymakers were considered with importance.
The prime minister added that, based on their suggestions, the government is working on strengthening legal protection for investments, developing a modern and business-friendly regulatory framework, simplifying the tax system, easing the process of profit repatriation, forming a strong capital market, and developing infrastructure.
He assured that alongside modernizing legal and regulatory frameworks, initiatives have been taken to strengthen investor protection, improve dispute resolution, simplify tax and VAT administration, digitalize government services, and reduce unnecessary restrictions and red tape.
Simultaneously, work is underway to bolster renewable energy, ports, logistics infrastructure, and energy security.
Tarique said the government is determined to elevate Bangladesh to a $1 trillion economy by 2034. To achieve this goal, special priority has been given to sectors such as renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, electronics, digital services, agro-processing, advanced textiles, healthcare, and logistics.
Moreover, emphasis is being placed on developing Bangladesh as a global manufacturing hub, increasing diversity in the Readymade Garment (RMG) sector, and focusing on technology and skills for human resource development.
Concluding his speech, Tarique noted that the future of Bangladesh depends not only on attracting investment but also on building long-term and credible partnerships. He invited local and foreign business leaders to partner in this journey of building a strong, just, and inclusive economy.
