The government has decided to form a national task force to strengthen overall preparedness and provide emergency response after earthquakes. Additionally, plans have been made to prepare 1 lakh volunteers for Dhaka and surrounding areas, as well as to set up a special cell at the Prime Minister's Office.

These decisions were made at a preparatory meeting held this Wednesday afternoon at the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The Prime Minister's Press Wing informed that a database of 70,000 volunteers has already been created to tackle disasters. A target has been set to prepare the remaining 30,000 volunteers within the shortest possible time. These volunteers will be provided with necessary equipment and training.

The meeting discussed various programs to raise public awareness about earthquake preparedness. Emphasis was also placed on ensuring effective coordination between government and private institutions during potential disasters, and on establishing humanitarian staging areas in Dhaka city.

The meeting was attended by Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, State Minister M. Iqbal Hossain, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare M. A. Muheet, Prime Minister's Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, and Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman Khan.
