BMD warns of storms, heat as new weather system forms

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said an increase in cloud cover across the country brought moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by intense lightning in several regions.
BMD confirmed the matter on Monday night. According to the forecast, scattered moderate to heavy rain is expected in parts of the Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, as well as in coastal regions.
There is a possibility of light rain in a few places within the Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, and Rangpur divisions, though the intensity of the downpour may be higher in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) along with Cox’s Bazar and Cumilla.
Analysis of the weather situation indicated that while the rain cycle is less active, a new rain cycle is likely to begin in the third week of August. Meanwhile, a process is underway for the formation of a new low-pressure system or weather system in the sea.
However, there is a risk of moderate to intense lightning and gusty winds in the northeastern and hilly areas before or during the onset of rain. As a result, everyone has been urged to remain vigilant and seek safe shelter immediately upon hearing the sound of thunder.
Alongside the rain forecast, most areas of the country may experience significant heat during the day, with a temporary mild heatwave sweeping through one or two locations in the Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Sylhet divisions.
During intervals between rain, a stifling and sweltering heat caused by atmospheric humidity will persist across the nation. Nighttime temperatures are also expected to rise slightly.
Regarding maritime weather, the North Bay of Bengal remains generally normal, and no warning signals have been issued yet; however, as the new system develops in the sea, cautionary signals may be issued in the near future.
