Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Meets Chinese President Xi Jinping

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday morning during his official visit to China.
The meeting began at 10 am local time at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
At 9:15 am, the prime minister paid tribute to China’s fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square. The national anthems of Bangladesh and China were played during the ceremony, accompanied by a bugle performance.
After laying the wreath, Tarique Rahman observed a moment of silence in honor of China’s revolutionary heroes.
Accompanying the prime minister were his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman; Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman; Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan; Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie; Economic Affairs Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir; Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir; Adviser on Education, Primary and Mass Education, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, and Labour and Employment Mahdi Amin; and Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman, among other officials.
Tarique Rahman is in Beijing on a four-day official visit at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
The prime minister began his first official overseas tour on June 21 with a visit to Malaysia before traveling to Dalian, China, to attend the World Economic Forum’s Summer Davos 2026. After participating in a series of events there for two days, he arrived in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon.
On Thursday, Bangladesh and China signed 13 memorandums of understanding to strengthen cooperation in various sectors following bilateral talks led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Premier Li at the Great Hall of the People.
The same day, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) signed a memorandum of understanding at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. Chinese Minister of Water Resources Li Guoying also paid a courtesy call on the prime minister.
During the visit,Tarique Rahman addressed the ‘Invest Bangladesh’ investment conference, jointly organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA). He also held a party-level meeting with Liu Haixing, minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China.
The prime minister also met with senior executives from several major Chinese industrial groups and representatives of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, China Railway Construction Corporation and China Road and Bridge Corporation. Discussions focused on expanding investment and trade, as well as enhancing China's contribution to Bangladesh's development.
Upon his arrival in Beijing, Rahman was welcomed with a red-carpet reception and full state honors.
Like his Malaysia visit and participation in the Summer Davos forum, the prime minister is traveling with a compact 25-member delegation, including 11 ministers, state ministers and advisers.
The prime minister and his delegation are scheduled to depart Beijing for Dhaka at 5 pm Friday.
