State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has announced that all fugitive suspects and convicted individuals will be brought back to the country to face justice. She said, "Diplomatic channels are being fully utilized to repatriate not only the ousted Prime Minister Hasina or the former Home Minister, but all convicts sentenced for crimes against humanity during the 2024 mass uprising."

She made these remarks on Monday morning following inauguration of a seminar on BIMSTEC in the city.

Shama Obaed said, "A formal memo has been sent to India seeking the extradition of the former Home Minister. Separate letters have also been sent to bring back others who have fled to India."

"As we approach the second anniversary of July, we still carry that grief. So much blood was spilled, and so many lives were lost. Our expectation is to ensure a fair, impartial, and swift trial for these events," she added.

The junior minister expressed her hope that India would respond positively this time, keeping (improving) bilateral relations between the two countries in mind.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Kamal, and the then Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun were accused in cases filed over crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising.

Following the judicial process, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 delivered its verdict on November 17, 2025. The tribunal found Sheikh Hasina and Kamal guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced them to death. The verdict stated that they were responsible for the actions of the security forces under the principle of 'Superior Command Responsibility'.

In the same case, former IGP Mamun, who turned state witness (approver), was sentenced to five years in prison. The tribunal later released a 453-page full verdict, which also ordered the confiscation of Sheikh Hasina and Kamal's properties in favor of the state.
