Toufique Imrose Khalidi, editor and publisher of bdnews24.com and a pioneer of the country’s online newspapers, has died (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un). He died Friday while undergoing treatment at a hospital in London.

Toufique Imrose Khalidi was born in Dhaka. He studied in the Department of English at the University of Dhaka. He earned his BA (Honors) and MA degrees from the university. For several years, he also served as the general secretary of the university’s English Literature Alumni Association.

During his career, he worked in all forms of mass media including online, print and television. The journalist also worked for the BBC World Service in London. After returning to the country, Toufique Imrose Khalidi launched bdnews24.com in 2006.
