Jamaat is a 'fascist party'

Prime Minister’s Political Assistant Rashed Khan has described Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami as a ‘fascist party.’

“I have not seen any democratic behavior from Jamaat-e-Islami so far,” he said. “The government has done nothing over the past five months that would justify threatening another mass uprising.”

Rashed made the remarks on Monday while speaking to reporters at Zia Udyan, where he visited the graves of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia after being appointed as the prime minister’s political assistant.

He said the language now being used by Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP) was similar to the rhetoric the Awami League had previously used against the BNP.

Calling on opposition parties to play a constructive role, Rashed said the government’s performance over the past five months did not warrant the use of abusive language on the streets.

He said political differences were natural, but stressed that all parties should work together in the national interest.
