Mirza Fakhrul’s nomination for presidential election declared valid

The Election Commission has declared the nomination paper of BNP nominated candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir valid for the presidential election.
Chief Election Commissioner and Election Officer AMM Nasir Uddin declared his candidacy valid today, Sunday, after scrutinizing the nomination paper.
Earlier, on August 13, a nomination paper for Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was submitted to the Election Commission.
Narsingdi 2 lawmaker and BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moin Khan was the proposer, while Dhaka 3 lawmaker and BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy was the seconder.
According to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission, candidates can withdraw their candidacies until 4:00 pm on August 18.
According to the announced schedule, voting in the presidential election will be held on August 20 in the session hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
As the BNP has an absolute majority in Parliament, the party’s candidate is largely assured of becoming president if voting takes place. Meanwhile, the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat- e-Islami has nominated Oli Ahmed as its candidate. The Election Commission has also declared his nomination paper valid.
Mohammad Sahabuddin recently resigned from the presidency. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad is currently serving as acting president.
