BNP Chairperson and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman exchanged greetings with senior leaders of political parties allied in the anti-fascism joint movement at the state guest house Jamuna on Monday evening.

The greeting ceremony began after 7:30 pm. The prime minister also hosted a dinner in honor of the coalition partners. Tarique arrived at Jamuna at around 7:30 pm.

Among those attending the event are BNP Secretary General and LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; Standing Committee Member and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed; Planning State Minister and Ganosamhati Andolan Political Council Member Zonayed Saki; Expatriates’ Welfare State Minister and Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur; BNP leader and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj; Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) Chairman Mostafa Jamal Haider; Biplobi Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haque; Gono Forum Acting President Advocate Subrata Chowdhury; Bhasani Janashakti Party Chairman Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablus; and leaders of other allied parties.

Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Ruman said more than 150 leaders from parties allied in the joint movement had been invited to the event at Jamuna.

People familiar with the matter said leaders of the 41 parties that joined the movement to oust the fascist government are expected to seek what they describe as proper recognition for their role. They are also expected to express their interest in joining the government.

The BNP formed the government after securing a two-thirds majority in the 13th parliamentary election held on Feb. 12. Monday’s event marks the first formal meeting between the prime minister and leaders of the parties allied in the movement since the election.
