Government harassing primary teacher candidates in name of verification, Nahid alleges

The government has shattered the dreams of at least 1,000 talented young people in the recruitment of teachers for government primary schools in the name of verification by intelligence agencies, alleged Md. Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and Opposition Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad.
The NCP convener made the allegation in a statement on Friday.
In the statement, Nahid Islam said Tarique Rahman’s government had set an example of extreme mockery even in the recruitment of government primary school teachers, which is the last resort for educated unemployed people. Even after proving their merit in the written and other stages of the examinations, the selected candidates have been subjected to eight months of uncertainty and harassment in the name of verification.
He said the young people were ultimately pushed into deep frustration without being given appointment letters. The issue has raised questions not only about the future of the young job seekers but also about transparency and accountability in the state’s recruitment system.
According to Nahid Islam, most of the candidates who were excluded have no record of any criminal case or general diary (GD) at a police station. There is also no information that they had previously been involved in any criminal activities or had links with terrorist groups. Despite this, allegations have emerged that they were excluded from recruitment without following any transparent, clear and accountable process.
He said if a citizen is denied a job on the basis of an opaque verification process even after successfully completing all stages of a recruitment examination based on merit and qualifications, it is not only unfair to the young candidates concerned but also raises questions about the state’s recruitment system.
In the statement, Nahid Islam demanded that the appointment of every candidate against whom there is no specific and lawful allegation be ensured immediately. At the same time, he demanded that the process through which the candidates were excluded and the criteria used for verification be made clear to the public.
