Rizvi calls for end to extortion on roads

BNP Acting Secretary General and Adviser to the Prime Minister Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has called for an end to the long running disorder and extortion in the road transport sector during the fascist regime to create a more comfortable environment for people.
Rizvi made the remarks while speaking to reporters after placing floral wreaths at the graves of BNP founder and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in Sher e Bangla Nagar in the capital on Thursday morning. He was accompanied by leaders of the new committee of the Bangladesh National Road Transport Workers Federation.
Rizvi said immediate effective measures are needed to eliminate the alleged mafia-based control surrounding the road transport sector.
“Ruhul Kabir Rizvi hopes that the new committee of the Transport Workers Federation will play an important role in eliminating mafia-based control in the road sector and restoring law and order.”
The BNP Acting Secretary General expects the new leadership of the workers federation to remain vocal in bringing changes by ending the long-standing stagnation in the transport sector. At the same time, they will play a leading role in protecting the interests of ordinary workers and improving the quality of passenger services.
Emphasizing the modernization of the transport sector, Rizvi said the sector will be reorganized through new ideas. The long-standing disorder will be eliminated and road transport will be brought fully under the law. A new standard will be set in passenger services, he said.
Earlier, leaders and activists of the Bangladesh National Road Transport Workers Federation arrived at the graves with banners and a procession. They were led by the organization's new President and former lawmaker Nazim Uddin Alam, Executive President Mortazul Karim Badru and General Secretary Rezaul Islam Raju.
Rizvi later paid tribute at the graves of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia along with the leaders of the new committee.
