Jamaat Alleges Attack on Rally in Capital

Jamaat-e-Islami has alleged that local leaders and activists of the BNP attacked one of its protest rallies in the Fulbaria area of Gulistan in the capital. Jamaat claimed that at least 25 to 30 people were injured in the incident.
The incident took place on Saturday afternoon beneath the Fulbaria Flyover. Following the attack, Jamaat leaders and activists gathered at the scene and staged a protest. Although the situation later calmed down, leaders and activists of both parties remained positioned around Fulbaria Market and the BRTC counter area.
Abdul Sattar Sumon, assistant publicity secretary of Jamaat’s Dhaka South unit, alleged that local BNP leaders and activists had long engaged in extortion and illegal occupation activities in the Gulistan area. He said they recently attempted to take control of a market by locking it, prompting local Jamaat leaders to stand by the traders at their request.
According to him, as a continuation of that dispute, Jamaat organized a protest rally in Fulbaria on Saturday against terrorism, extortion, and illegal occupation. Local traders also joined the rally. At that time, he alleged, local BNP leaders and activists launched a sudden attack.
A Jamaat activist who participated in the rally claimed that authorities took 25 to 30 injured people to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He said three to four of the injured were in serious condition.
However, BNP did not issue an immediate response to the allegations.
