Home Minister: Politics of selling ideology has failed in the country

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the politics of selling the spirit of 1971 has failed miserably in Bangladesh.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a gathering organized by the 'White Panel' of Dhaka University on Saturday, marking the aspirations and the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising.

The Home Minister said, "We have told those who want to hijack the credit for the July Mass Uprising and form political parties to do politics on that basis, many times, that the politics of selling idelogy has failed in the country."

He commented that the mass uprising was not Newton's apple, but rather the fruit of 17 years of continuous struggle.

The minister said, "The mass uprising was not Newton's apple. We had to ripen it; it never fell automatically. We had to achieve this apple, this movement, this mass uprising, as the result of a long 17-year chain of movements."

Addressing the NCP (National Citizen Party), Salahuddin Ahmed said, "Our new friends in politics talk about new politics and new arrangements, but they follow the old system's path. I would urge them to correct themselves."

"One cannot behave like a university professor while being a primary school student in politics. They must learn; they have a long way to go. The field of politics is very difficult, treacherous, and thorny. It is not so easy," the minister added.

Recalling the BNP as a party, the minister further said, "If anyone thinks that in just 36 days of movement, there is nothing of the 17 years of continuous struggle, then that too is political immaturity."
