An attack has been carried out on a march organized by the National Citizens Party (NCP) in Habiganj, with local Chhatra Dal activists allegedly behind the assault. Several vehicles belonging to journalists were also vandalized during the incident, according to sources. Multiple NCP leaders and activists were injured in the attack, which took place on Tuesday (today) evening.

The NCP's media wing said Nasiruddin Patwari and Sarjis Alam were on stage during the rally when Chhatra Dal members launched the first wave of the attack. Later, the assailants targeted other activists and journalists who were inside vehicles.

Eyewitnesses said that around 6:30 PM, Nasiruddin Patwari and Sarjis Alam were delivering speeches in front of the Town Hall. Patwari said "Prime Minister Tarique Rahman cannot bring change to Bangladesh. He has taken the worst elements of society into Parliament."
Earlier, during a rally in Azmiriganj, Sarjis Alam said, "In the five months of the BNP government, 213 people have died in political violence. Of these, 118 were killed in internal clashes within the BNP itself. If these people can kill so many of their own over power, extortion, and money disputes, then the people of this country are not safe with them."

Following these remarks, tensions escalated in the area. As the NCP leaders were returning toward the Circuit House, they were attacked near Kalapata Restaurant—about 200 yards from the Sadar Model Police Station. After the assault, the NCP leaders took refuge in a nearby branch of Sonali Bank. The area was promptly cordoned off by several hundred police officers led by Habiganj Superintendent of Police Tarek Mahmud.
At the scene, Chhatra Dal activists chanted slogans like "Fake! Fake!" while NCP activists responded with "Inquilab Zindabad!" (Long Live the Revolution). Police were seen firing rubber bullets to control the situation. Eventually, law enforcement rescued Nasiruddin Patwari and Sarjis Alam and escorted them safely inside the Circuit House.
