BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Prime Minister’s Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the party's policy-making forum will decide who the next president of the country will be.

At the same time, he added that the party forum will also decide on the demands raised by various political parties regarding the trial of the former president Mohammed Shahabuddin.

Rizvi made these remarks after paying floral tributes at the graves of BNP founder and president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka on Saturday.

He paid the tributes at Zia's grave accompanied by 12 leaders of the party who have been appointed on a contractual basis to various government agencies, offices, and corporations.

Speaking about the resignation of Shahabuddin, Rizvi said, “Shahabuddin has mentioned illness regarding his resignation; we want to believe that.”

He added that the BNP policy-making forum will discuss and make a final decision later regarding the demands for the resigned president's trial raised by various political parties. For now, he has resigned primarily citing physical illness.

Regarding the evaluation of party workers, Rizvi said Tarique is properly evaluating the driving forces and those who made sacrifices during the party's movements and struggles. He noted that those given responsibilities in various important government positions on Friday are closely involved with the party.

Rizvi expressed hope that these appointed leaders will work with honesty and dedication and will not sell themselves out.

He added, “In the last five months, the prime minister has undertaken multi-faceted development work, including social welfare, and is working to fulfill all his promises. An initiative for a one-trillion-dollar economy has been taken nationwide for youth employment and participation, which the government is working to implement.”

Jatiotabadi Shramik Dal Executive President Salahuddin Sarkar, International Affairs Secretary Mohammad Rashedul Huq, ATM Abdul Bari Danny and Kamruzzaman Dulal attended the program.

Information regarding the contractual appointments was shared in 12 separate notifications signed on Thursday by Md Golam Rabbani, deputy secretary of the Contract and Foreign Appointment Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration.

They have been appointed for a term of one year from the date of joining, on the condition of severing ties with any other profession, business, or government, semi-government, and private institutions or organizations.
