A daylong Molasses Festival was held in Natore, organized by the North Bengal E-Commerce Foundation, to preserve the tradition of date palm molasses and encourage entrepreneurs involved in its production and marketing.
The North Bengal E-Commerce Foundation organized the festival at the Natore District Council Auditorium on Saturday.
The festival began in the morning with the participation of molasses producers and marketers. It aimed to explore ways to ensure that safe molasses reaches consumers.
Around 700 entrepreneurs, producers and distributors from across the country attended the Molasses Festival conference.
Mohammad Ibrahim Sardar, president of the North Bengal E-Commerce Foundation, said the festival would strengthen communication and business relationships among local entrepreneurs. It would also create opportunities to promote traditional molasses and other locally made products across the country and introduce them to the general public.
The first such festival in Natore featured 16 stalls showcasing various types of molasses and sweets.
Around Tk 1.5 billion worth of date palm molasses is sold in the district every year.
