The by-election poll to the Thakurgaon-1 (Sadar, Ruhia and Bhulli) seat has ended peacefully in 185 centres. The taking of franchise continued from 8 am to 4 pm on Thursday. Counting began soon after thge voting ended.

The official result will be announced after consolidating centre-wise results.

The district election commission said that until 3 pm, 52 percent of votes had been cast. However, the total turnout will be known after vote counting is completed.

No major violence was reported during the election. However, Jamaat-e-Islami and the 11-party alliance candidate Md. Delawar Hossain raised allegations of irregularities in the appointment of agents at polling centres, ballot papers, and violation of the election code of conduct.

When asked about the voting environment, he said that so far he sees the environment at polling centres as good. He would be able to provide details after inspecting a few more centres. Regarding 15 centres being marked as risky by the administration, he said voters are interested in casting votes. Ensuring security at these centres is the responsibility of the administration and the election commission.

BNP candidate Mirza Faisal Amin told Agamir Somoy, "Although the weather was somewhat bad today, voting in the Thakurgaon-1 seat was held peacefully except for some isolated incidents. Voter turnout is also satisfactory."

On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami and the 11-party alliance candidate Md. Delawar Hossain told journalists, "At many centres, the identity cards of the presiding officer, assistant presiding officer, and several other officials do not have photographs. Irregularities have been observed here. As a result, someone else could perform duties using their identities. This is very concerning."
