Wife calls 999 and surrenders after killing husband

A woman named Rehena Akter (40), called the National Emergency Service 999 in Dhaka’s Sabujbagh and reported that she had killed her husband. Police later arrested her.
Rehena Akter called 999 from a neighborhood near Nandipara Boro Mosque at around 12:00 pm on Thursday, September 3. The information was disclosed in a press release signed by Police Inspector Anwar Sattar, media and public relations officer of the National Emergency Service 999.
The press release said the woman claimed over the phone that she had given her husband Mahfuzur Rahman, 40, sleeping pills the previous night and then struck him on the head with a brick while he was asleep.
After receiving the call, 999 immediately informed Sabujbagh Police Station. The call was received by 999 call taker Constable Arif Hossain. Later, 999 Police Dispatcher SI Awlad Hossain supervised and coordinated the matter with the relevant police station.
According to preliminary police information, the incident is believed to have occurred over a family dispute and allegations that the husband was involved in relationships with other women. However, the allegations are under investigation.
After receiving the information, a team from Sabujbagh Police Station went to the scene and arrested Rehena Akter. The National Emergency Service 999 said legal proceedings in the case are underway.
