A court has rejected the remand petition of content creator AM Hasan Nasim. The court ordered him sent to jail in connection with a case filed over allegations of spreading misleading information about the Chief Whip of the National Parliament. The case was filed at Gulshan Police Station.
Following a hearing on Saturday, Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Piyas issued the order in Dhaka.
Nasim was produced before the court on the day of the hearing. Detective Branch (DB) Sub-Inspector Md. Raihanur Rahman had sought a seven-day remand, requesting permission to interrogate him, identify and arrest other unidentified suspects, recover evidence, and uncover the full motive behind the incident.
Nasim’s lawyer, Zahirul Islam, filed a petition seeking cancellation of the remand and bail.
After hearing both sides, the court rejected the remand petition and ordered that Nasim be sent to jail. The court also set Sunday as the date for the bail hearing.
Earlier on Friday night, police arrested Nasim around 8 pm from a rented residence in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital.
According to the case statement, on April 11 at around 11:30 pm, complainant Md. Nazrul Islam, while at his Gulshan residence, saw a Facebook post allegedly made by Nasim. The post, which included the caption: “I have brought three whales from the sea, two sharks are coming, Insha’Allah. Everyone is invited: Chief Whip,” was allegedly intended to blackmail the Chief Whip of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni, the MP from Barguna-2.
The statement further said that Nasim later continued to publish and circulate misleading information on different dates and times. It also alleged that unknown individuals used WhatsApp to send screenshots to the Chief Whip’s personal number in an attempt to blackmail him.
Following the incident, Md. Nazrul Islam, a close associate of the Chief Whip, filed a case at Gulshan Police Station under the Cyber Security Ordinance.
