Muscle power resurfaces in universities: Nahid Islam

NCP convener Nahid Islam warned that any attempt to preserve fascism or authoritarian rule in the country would be countered by renewed public unity.
He stated, “Bangladesh’s democratic institutions are being politicized. Muscle power is once again being displayed in universities.”
He made the remarks on Friday at the Institution of Engineers in Dhaka.
Nahid claimed, “We had aimed to restructure the country in line with the aspiration for change, reform, and anti-discrimination that has emerged in Bangladesh. To that end, we formed a political party and made commitments to the people ahead of the election. This is not an ordinary election; it is an election to repair the state.”
He added that a referendum was held alongside the general election. “Unfortunately, after the election, the elected government has denied the referendum. They have deviated from the ideals of the July mass uprising and have turned it into a typical post-power-transition election,” he said.
