False claim of ‘anarchy in Mohammadpur’ using Indian video

A video was posted yesterday from an X account named ‘@banglaleague224’, showing several people attacking and vandalizing a shop. The post presented the footage with the caption, “The law-and-order situation in Bangladesh has reached an extreme deterioration. The incident took place in Mohammadpur. There is no peace anywhere. The country has now descended into complete anarchy.”

However, an investigation found that the viral claim is completely false. The video has no connection to Bangladesh and actually shows an old incident in Madhya Pradesh, India.

Original Source of the Video and Reports by Mainstream Media

A reverse image search of key frames from the video found the same footage uploaded in August 2025 by an X user named ‘@rameshofficial0’. The user identified the location of the video as Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh, India.

Further investigation found reports on the incident from Indian media outlets Navbharat Times, India TV and LatestLY.

According to those reports, six armed men attacked Raja Provision Store in Vonti town on July 29, 2025. The attackers were reportedly carrying sticks, axes and locally made firearms. The shop owner, Raja, also known as Rishabh Gupta, went inside the shop and closed the shutter to protect himself. The attackers continued striking the shop, and they were also accused of firing a round of gunfire. The shopkeeper later accused local police of failing to take timely action.

Therefore, after analyzing all the available information and evidence, it is clear that the claim on social media is completely false. Footage of an attack on a shop that took place a year ago in Madhya Pradesh, India, has been falsely presented as an incident in Mohammadpur, Bangladesh, creating a false picture of anarchy.
