President Fakhrul begins official duties at Bangabhaban

Newly sworn in President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has begun his official duties at Bangabhaban for the first time since taking the oath of office.
President Fakhrul arrived at Bangabhaban at 11 am on Sunday. A well decorated mounted police unit welcomed him at Gate 2.
Later a smartly turned-out contingent of the Bangladesh Army's President Guard Regiment (PGR) presented him with a guard of honor at the Credential Field.
According to the state-run news agency BSS, after the guard of honor the President and his family members were welcomed with flowers at the Octagonal of Bangabhaban by his Military Secretary Major General A S M Bahauddin, Secretary of the Public Division A J M Salahuddin Nagari, Press Secretary Md. Sarwar Alam and PGR Commander Brigadier General Golam Arikul Alam.
On his first day of office at Bangabhaban, the President remained in his office and signed official documents, according to the report. He then signed the visitors' book.
The newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir took the oath of office on Friday evening.
Earlier on Thursday, Mirza Fakhrul was elected President in an election held in the Jatiya Sangsad. He received 255 votes.
His rival Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and candidate of the 11-party alliance, received 88 votes.
