PM visits Feni to inaugurate flood control project

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has left Dhaka on a daylong visit to participate at various programs in Parshuram, Feni on Thursday morning.
PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu confirmed the matter. This marks Tarique’s first visit to Feni after assuming office as prime minister.
He will inaugurate the project titled “Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project Rehabilitation (First Phase)” at 12:30 pm at the Khowaighat Muhuri Bridge area. Following that, he will participate in greetings ceremony with the local public.
Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the implementation of the project on 16 June at a cost of Tk 1,542.16 crore. Under the project, 67.92 kilometers of embankment rehabilitation, 11.73 kilometers of riverbank protection, 83.50 kilometers of river and waterbody re-excavation, rehabilitation of 27 irrigation infrastructures, and construction of 77 inlets will be carried out, reports BSS.
In the subsequent phase, plans are in place to construct new embankments on the Muhuri and Kohua rivers, as well as embankment construction, river excavation, and renovation on the Siloniya river.
The tentative completion time for the project has been fixed by 2030. Afterwards, Tarique will travel to Fulgazi and participate in a tree plantation program at Khaleda Zia Women’s College at 1:30 PM. He will then visit the Fulgazi Zila Parishad Rest House.
There, he will inaugurate the supply of electricity to the national grid from the rooftop solar power system installed at that establishment. Solar power systems with a total capacity of 962.5 kilowatts have been installed across government buildings in Fulgazi, Parshuram, and Chhagalnaiya upazilas.
Among these, there is a 415-kilowatt power system in Chhagalnaiya, 298 kilowatts in Parshuram, and 249 kilowatts in Fulgazi.
At 3 pm, he will join a program organized at the Fulgazi Government Pilot High School grounds. There, he will participate in a distribution event for holders of Family Cards, Farmers’ Cards, and individuals serving in religious places of worship, including mosque imams, muezzins, and khadems.
