7-Day Deadline for Probe in Child Rape-Murder Case

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman has directed authorities to submit the investigation report within seven days in the case filed over the rape and murder of an eight-year-old child in Pallabi, Dhaka. The instruction has been given to the commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The law minister disclosed the information on Thursday, saying authorities would take appropriate steps to complete the trial proceedings in the shortest possible time.
Police recovered the body of the second-grade student from an apartment in Pallabi Section-11 in the capital on Tuesday morning. Following the incident, the child’s father filed a case with Pallabi Police Station.
The case names neighboring tenant Sohel Rana, his wife Swapna Akter, and another unidentified person as accused. Police detained Swapna after the incident.
Although Sohel initially went into hiding, police arrested him later that evening. During preliminary interrogation, he confessed to raping and killing the child, according to police.
Doctors later conducted the autopsy at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital before authorities handed over the body to the family. Relatives buried the child at the family’s village home.
